美國總統歐巴馬(Barack Obama)16日強烈認為，俄羅斯總統蒲亭(Vladimir Putin)知道破壞美國大選的電子郵件駭客事件。歐巴馬並且呼籲他的繼任者、總統當選人川普(Donald Trump)把國家安全擺在權術之前，支持民主、共和兩黨對此事件的調查。
美國情報圈已作成結論，俄羅斯發動駭客攻擊，竊取民主黨電子郵件並加以公布，目的就是讓民主黨總統候選人希拉蕊．柯林頓(Hillary Clinton)的選情受傷，進而幫助川普勝選，入主白宮。
歐巴馬16日舉行年終記者會。他說：「在俄羅斯，很少有事情是蒲亭不知道的。」歐巴馬表示，他曾警告蒲亭如果不「停止」將會有嚴重後果。
不過歐巴馬並未明白表示，美國將會在何時、以何種方式報復。歐巴馬表示，會有一些公開的行動，「俄羅斯方面會直接收到訊息，但我們不會宣揚」。
